First Masters

Cave Paintings

The mineral pictures from the series “First Masters” are based on motifs from Stone Age cave paintings. Here, diverse materials are used, but primarily varieties of basalt, limestone, and sandstone.

The motifs originate in the caves of Chauvet and Lascaux, both of which are in France. The “crying cows” is originally a rock engraving at Tessout in southern Algeria.
