About me
The pictures that you see here are made entirely from stones; that it, minerals.
The materials come from around the globe, including some from my home in southern Germany. The motif with the horse, for example, is largely made with minerals from a mine in the Black Forest.
These pictures would never have come about were it not for my pilgrimages along the “the Way of Saint James” in Spain. It is said that the trail has a gift for everyone that trusts in it. One of my gifts was meeting Antonio Bello a few kilometers before my arriving in Santiago.
Antonio is an old hand in the art of producing images out of minerals. He patiently shows everything about how to go about it. The search for stones, their grinding and washing—it is an organic process all the way to the finished picture. For me it is a kind of communication with the material and also with the motifs.
Stone and the Stone Age – these go well together. I dedicate the cave motifs to the courage, the perseverance, and the sensibility of the first artists on our planet. Our common ancestors.
One of the most beautiful inventions of the universe is music. I am most touched by the blue notes. Moments of delight, crystalized in material. John Coltrane’s expression was what first gave me the idea to create a work that would serve as a symbolic bow before these giants of Jazz.
Gradually I added works for the other musical legends. And many are still waiting for their place in the collection.
Here I would also like to thank Michael Cuscuna of Blue Note Records, who allowed me to use the photographs of Francis Wolff as templates.
Last but not least you can see works on this page which I produced for commissions I was given.
Your favorite motif can also come into being as a crystalized moment.
Most of my pictures are for sale. Prices are available upon request.
I look forward to your comments, thoughts, questions, suggestions...
